John C. Martin

John C. Martin, a partner with the firm, has devoted his practice to defending claims involving disability discrimination, other alleged employer misconduct and workers' compensation.

In practice since 1970, Mr. Martin primarily represents the interest of self-insured public and private employers in California. His trial and appellate experience has focused on defending work-related injury claims, allegations of discrimination and claims of serious and willful misconduct on the part of the employer.

Prior to his present partnership, Mr. Martin served as vice-president and general counsel for Roger Engemann & Associates, Inc. and prior to that, he was a partner with a large Southern California defense firm with which he was affiliated for seventeen years.

He is admitted to practice before the California Supreme Court, District of Columbia Court of Appeals, the Federal District Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court. Mr. Martin is a member of the panel of arbitrators at the WCAB, is a trained mediator, and periodically serves as Judge Pro-Tem.

After receiving his B.A. degree in International Relations from the University of California, Los Angeles, Mr. Martin graduated in 1969 with a degree of Juris Doctor from Loyola University of Los Angeles. He served in the United States Marine Corps Reserve and held the rank of Captain upon discharge from the service. A member of the Bar in California and the District of Columbia, he is also a member of the American Bar Association, the Los Angeles County Bar Association and the Pasadena Bar Association. He recently served as the Chair of the Workers' Compensation Section of the Los Angeles County Bar Association and is a member of the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Section of that association. He is a director of the Pasadena National Trust Company in Pasadena, California.

Mr. Martin has served as a law instructor, panelist, and lecturer on topics ranging from ADR to the ADA as well as worker' compensation.
