George C. Macias
The country of Ecuador is named after the equator that runs right through it. It is famous for several exports including bananas and some exceptional people like George Macias. Maybe it is the geographic setting of the country straddling that very prominent line, but there seems to be an inherent balance with its people and that is very characteristic of Mr. Macias. Clients who have worked with him see that he is quiet and unassuming but is extremely competent and is a quick study when confronted with a challenge. From the very moment he set foot in this country, Mr. Macias has been learning, first, mastering our difficult language, then, the ins and outs of the substantive and procedural intricacies of the workers’ compensation laws. He “backed into” the field in a different way than most professionals in the system did. His first experience, eleven years ago was as a medical assistant in the offices of Ronald Perelman, M.D. When starting that job, he was entirely unaware of the compensation system. During the ensuing three years, he picked up a substantial body of knowledge concerning the issues surrounding treatment within the workers’ compensation system as well as a rich store of the medical and workers’ compensation terminology. Looking for a different experience still within the same field, He proceeded to take a job with an applicant’s attorney where he also worked for three years. He acquired a wealth of knowledge concerning the process from the applicant’s perspective and mastered the preparation of the documentation for the attorney as an assistant. With six years of experience under his belt and wanting once again to change the perspective, Mr. Macias accepted a position with a defense attorney’s office where he found a true home with the kind of representation performed. The challenge presented on the defense side excited him and the high expectations of the attorneys presented a challenge that he felt was lacking at the previous places of employment. While proceeding along in his working career, Mr. Macias also has pursued a college education, attending Pierce College to fulfill his lower class requirements while now attending California State University, Los Angeles to complete his Bachelor’s degree. Well, others misfortune is sometimes a boon to oneself and we were delighted to welcome this highly trained, motivated and smart employee into our practice in the late fall of 2009 when his employer at the time experienced some economic hard times, resulting in Mr. Macias seeking another position. He has been intensely trained over the last few months by Helen Brennan, our paralegal supervisor, and clients working with Mr. Macias will be delighted with his skill level, his intelligence and the quiet and highly competent manner in which he goes about his assignments.
